FBI Can Spy Through Your Webcam WITHOUT Turning On Indicator Light

mac_fbi

Many have suspected it, but now it has been officially revealed by a former agent that the FBI can activate a computer’s webcam to without even making the indicator light activate and light up.

Using this secret method, they can spy on an individual according to information given to the Washington Post last Friday.

Marcus Thomas, a former assistant director of the FBI’s Operational Technology Division in Quantico, explained that, “The FBI has been able to covertly activate a computer’s camera — without triggering the light that lets users know it is recording — for several years, and has used that technique mainly in terrorism cases or the most serious criminal investigations.”

“Because of encryption and because targets are increasingly using mobile devices, law enforcement is realizing that more and more they’re going to have to be on the device — or in the cloud,” he continued. “There’s the realization out there that they’re going to have to use these types of tools more and more.”

this does of course entirely depend on you connecting your netbook/notebook/whatever to an internet service…

There is a simple solution I found after some quick research.

    Take a look at http://www.camjamr.com

These camJAMR Webcam Covers work on all devices with built-in webcams. laptops, phones, tv’s, tablets, xbox, etc…

That would be a really good trick, because mine isn’t plugged in. But Blue Tac works too.

I will just cover mine with masking tape or sticky note when not in use 😉
