Former Republican president reportedly will vote for Democrat candidate Clinton.

Although he had planned to remain silent on the 2016 presidential race, the preference of 92-year-old Republican former President George H.W. Bush has been made known to the general public. Reportedly, he will vote for the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Although the 41st President has strongly endorsed every Republican nominee for the last 5 election cycles, sources close to the former president said he had revealed his intention to vote for Clinton on earlier private occasions. However, disclosure of his plan to support Clinton was made public when Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy, posted on Facebook a photo of herself with George H.W. Bush at a gathering of the advisory board of the bipartisan Points of Light Foundation. The caption accompanying the photo read, “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!”

When asked about Townsend’s post, Jim McGrath, spokesman for George H.W. Bush, wrote in an e-mail, “The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim.”

Former President G.H.W. Bush is not the only member of his family who does not support Republican candidate Donald Trump.  In May, George W. Bush, said he would not support Trump. Jeb Bush, who was unsuccessful in his bid for the 2016 presidency, has said he will vote for neither Trump nor Clinton. Marvin Bush, the former president’s youngest son, has said he will vote for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.
