In a working class area of Krasnoyarsk, an area of eastern Siberia, a new eatery called “President Cafe” recently opened. It is extremely patriotic to Russia and pays homage to President Putin. Dozens of photos of Putin from his childhood to the Kremlin adorn the walls. Customers can pose and have their photo taken with life size standup cutouts of Putin. If a customer needs to use the rest room, they are directed to a door with “NATO Bloc” written on the door. Inside, floor mats are designed to look like the American flag and President Obama’s face is imprinted on the toilet paper.

Dmitry Zhdanov, co-owner of the restaurant said he and his partners were trying to think of a concept that would attract customers and guarantee the success of the café when it occurred to them that Russia had no café fully dedicated to Putin, “Russia’s most popular politician”.

Also in the bathroom is a photo of President Obama on the wall, together with photos of British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. There seems to be a Hitler Mustache drawn on Chancellor Merkel’s photo. A photo of Ukraine’s pro-Western prime minister is also there. All photos are covered with hand-written graffiti, some of which are “salty” Russian curses.

“We decided to give people a place where they can eat well and inexpensively and also remind themselves about Russia’s achievements in a pleasant atmosphere”, continued Zhdanov.

The Russian National Anthem plays every day at midday, and cocktails are inspired by Russia’s white, blue, and red flag. Also on the walls are photos of a few other Russians such as Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space.

Zhdanov said he does not hate the West, concluding, “I am neutral towards Western politicians.  This is just business, nothing personal…We see this as entertainment.”
