In what has got to be the most deliberately offensive and racist Halloween costume of this year, a pair of Florida men decided to dress up as George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. The two decided to cap off the offensive costumes with painted blackface and faux blood-stained hoodie, worn by William Filene, 25.
Greg Cimeno, 22, who lives in Cape Coral Florida, dressed as Zimmerman a “Neighborhood Watch” t-shirt, just in case anyone missed his offensive point.
The image was found on the Facebook page of Caitlin Cimeno from Martha’s Vineyard who captioned the photo “Happy Halloween from Zimmerman & trayvon.” Caitlin found the costumed racists so amusing that she had to get a picture of herself with them.
Greg Cimeno responded to comments about the image, before it was later taken down, “Anything for the laugh.” One of Caitlin’s friends commented that it was “Not too funny,” Greg replied, “Not too funny. It’s fucking hilarious!!!”
A brief scan of Caitlin’s Facebook page reveals the normalized racism in white middle America today. The Smoking Gun investigated Cimeno’s page in depth and reported, “In Facebook posts last year, Cimeno referred to elderly women who wore tight pants and tube tops as ‘tacos,’ and, when requesting that a friend contact her, she wrote, ‘Text ne niggs.’ In August, Cimeno also posted a photo of an African American girl wearing a t-shirt reading ‘Black Girls Rock.’ In her accompanying caption, Cimeno wrote, ‘First of all, sorry Hun but mommy lied to you & secondly if I was wearing a shirt that said something like the truth ‘white girls rock’ I would be stared at and called a racist cracker.'”
The three are pictured below out of costume. As Halloween approaches this year, expect more normalized racism from folks like these.
